Duties: The Freedom of Information and Privacy Coordinator will report to the Manager of Legislative Services and provide support as detailed below.

The Freedom of Information and Privacy Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of the City’s Privacy Management Program to ensure compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA); handle information requests; interpret and apply FOIPPA regulations; analyze complex data for release; recommend information disclosure or withholding; and, draft all necessary documentation; draft and review Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs); draft and review policies and procedures related to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests; collaborate with other departments, external organizations, and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC); provide information, advice, and training to staff and the public on FOIPPA regulations; be responsible, if required, for creating the closed agenda, attending and taking minutes of Council; carry out confidential administrative duties, as required; assist with Election duties, as required; and, assist the Corporate Officer in an efficient and professional manner.

Education: Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by education in Local Government Administration, Records Management, and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy, or a combination of education and experience that is acceptable to the employer.

Minimum of two years progressive experience in the records and information management field, preferably in a local government or public sector environment.
Skills: - Expertise in interpreting and applying relevant legislation, rules, regulations, practices and procedures governing applicable departmental operations and activities.

- Proficiency in the interpretation and application of the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Regulations and Commissioner’s
Orders, Community Charter, Local Government Act, and the Interpretation Act.

- Familiarity with the Local Government Management Association’s (LGMA) Records Management Manual.

- Proficiency in taking minutes rapidly and accurately.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Escribe would be an asset.

- Considerable knowledge of spelling, punctuation and arithmetic, and of modern office practices and procedures.

- Considerable knowledge of the operation and functions of all municipal departments as related to the work performed.

- You have a track record of making decisions in light of established precedents and to exercise resourcefulness in dealing with new situations.

- The ability to prepare, maintain, update and retrieve a variety of lists, manuals and related materials, and to search records and compile information.

- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.

- The ability to exercise tact and persuasiveness in dealing with contentious matters, especially in high pressure situations.
Salary: $39.76 - $47.48 per hour (2024 rates)
