The Recreation and Culture Department with the City of Chilliwack, a growing and vibrant community of 100,000 located 100 kilometers east of Vancouver, is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of Assistant Superintendent of Recreation Facilities.

In this dynamic role you will ensure that all Recreation Facilities are maintained and operated according to Department and Council policy. Ensure that appropriate expenditures of approved budgets are executed properly. Make sure that all goals, objectives and service levels are maintained in an effective and timely manner pursuant to Council Directives. Implement changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Recreation Facilities operation and prioritize the safety of the Recreation users. Assume responsibility for the hiring process for the Recreation function, including staff increments, promotions, performance assessments and all facets of discipline up to and including dismissal.

Assume responsibility for many aspects of Contracted Services in the Recreation Facilities, from calling for tenders to the management of the contract. You will be responsible for effectively planning and coordinating short term minor and medium objectives as well as assisting with long term capital and major projects. Self-starter with ability to organize daily tasks, set priorities, work independently and as a member of a team; and work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines. Proven ability to address competing needs and advance established priorities. Proven ability to seek innovative solutions to problems and exercise independent judgment and action in performance of all duties. Must hold valid B.C. Driver’s license.

Education: You should have training in Recreation Facilities Management, Buildings Management or similar programs and 5 years of progressive related experience, in Building Management, preferably in a government setting.
Skills: Technical training and experience in the maintenance and operation of municipal pool and arena mechanical and HVAC systems is a asset. You can communicate effectively with elected representatives, appointed officials, contractors and the general public, while effectively leading a diversified team of individuals. You have skills in project management and demonstrate a high degree of versatility and adaptability to changing circumstances.
Salary: $98,447-$105,990 annually
