Title: Administrative Assistant

Duties: Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, you will assist in establishing the smooth and efficient operation of the Corporate Service’s functions by exercising a high degree of independent judgment, demonstrating sound knowledge of the legal requirements of local government and recording Minutes of afternoon and evening Council Meetings. You will provide support in the preparation of documents and agreements related to labour relations and property management. You must demonstrate sound knowledge of the legal requirements of the Local Government Act and Community Charter.
Education: Post-secondary program in secretarial or office administration studies;
Minimum 5 years experience at a senior secretarial level.
Skills: In addition to taking Minutes at various meetings, you will be responsible for preparing Agendas, drafting correspondence and bylaws, taking dictation, and preparing communication from rough drafts or dictated material. You will handle confidential material with discretion and integrity, and have a thorough knowledge of office procedures and practices.
In addition to:
strong written and verbal communication skills;
knowledge of the functions, methods, rules, procedures, bylaws, regulations and policies pertaining to the Corporate Services/Clerk's Department;
the ability to deal effectively with elected officials, the public, and all levels of staff;
the ability to understand Roberts Rules of Order; and
familiarity with protocol and understanding and sensitivity to political issues.
