Duties: GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve efficient operation within the Department through reliable performance in various planning functions, and provides planning advice in areas of development or long range planning including zoning, development, policy, urban design, and comprehensive planning.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:

The incumbent will be responsible for conducting investigations, studies and preparing reports on development and long range planning matters, including interpreting zoning, bylaws, and policy on projects of varying degrees of complexity. The incumbent will provide technical support for planning functions and undertake research and data collection. The incumbent will conduct development review and approvals for zoning, development permits, and other City regulations and policies, including the preparation of correspondence on a variety of topics, files, and applications. The incumbent will attend Committee meetings as required, and work under general supervision with some position discretion, performing other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The incumbent in this class will normally work the standard work week of Monday to Friday within the hours specified and on occasion work overtime as authorized. The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Education: -Must have a degree in Planning from a recognized university with three (3) years professional experience in urban and regional planning - OR - an equivalent combination of related education and experience;

-CIP membership or eligibility for membership
Skills: -Superior knowledge of planning, land development and development industry processes;

-Superior ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including preparing clear and concise technical and non-technical reports;

-Ability to read and interpret development plans, site plans, and understand their specifications;

-Proficient in mapping and graphics as applied to planning;

-Sound knowledge of various government agencies and legislation as they pertain to planning;

-Ability to coordinate work with staff in Planning and other departments, and establish and maintain effective working relationships;

-Ability to deal effectively with applicants and the public in a tactful, courteous, and diplomatic manner;

-Excellent computer skills with high proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience with land or property tracking software; knowledge of GIS considered and asset;

-Demonstrated ability to multi task in a high pressure environment to meet competing demands, able to organize work processes efficiently and prioritize work tasks.
Salary: $51.74 per hour (2024 rate)
