Duties: | The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve efficient operation of the Utilities Section of the Operations Department through reliable performance of Labourer I duties observing and complying with municipal policies and practices.
The incumbent in this class will be required to perform all non and semi-skilled tasks associated with labourer duties; cutting grass, flagging, loading equipment, repairing fences, cleaning streets, removing garbage, using manual tools, laying pipes, digging, etc. The incumbent will perform other related tasks as assigned. Assignments are performed under general supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Supervisor III – Underground Utilities. |
Education: | -Must have grade 8 education with a minimum of two (2) years experience in the labourer force - OR - an equivalent combination;
-Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence; -Able to establish and maintain a good working relationship with other staff members; -Able to recognize and rectify and/or report upon actual or potential safety hazards; -Able to perform manual work and lift heavy objects; -Working knowledge of tools, equipment, procedures, principles and methods used in labourer work. |
Skills: | The incumbent will work any five (5) consecutive days within the hours as prescribed in published shift schedules and on occasion work overtime as authorized. The incumbent must be of good health to work outdoors regardless of weather. The incumbent must wear safety equipment as appropriate to the performance of duties. The incumbent upon hiring will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement. |
Salary: | $22.64 to $26.64 |
