Duties: The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation within the Parks section of the Operations Department through the reliable performance of duties related to the administration of the urban reforestation activities in compliance with municipal policies and safety practices.

The incumbent in this class will be responsible for the overall administration of the tree inventory and the evaluation of park tree health and of trail/tree safety. The incumbent will coordinate urban reforestation activities in commercial and residential areas; provide technical instruction to maintenance crews; provide feedback as requested to development services concerning the effect of development on adjacent trees and vegetation. The incumbent will liaise with and assist outside agencies and other departments in the reforestation of future developments. The incumbent will assist with developing City standards and policies with regard to arboriculture and will maintain comprehensive records of inspections. The incumbent will be required to write reports, prepare educational information for the public and make public presentations. The incumbent will be responsible for the administration of the development tree bylaw. The incumbent will also perform other related duties as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Supervisor II - Parks.
Education: Must possess a diploma in Arboriculture or related discipline from a recognized institution;

Must possess certification in Arboriculture with the International Society of Arboriculture with a minimum of a three years related experience, or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
Skills: - Must have sound knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures associated with the use of computers and computer data bases as applicable to arboriculture work including GPS experience;

- Must be able to identify Pacific Northwest trees and other common plant material used in local landscape;

- Must be able to recognize plant diseases, pests, cultural or nutritional deficiencies and recommend corrective treatments;

- Must be in possession of a valid BC Driver’s Licence with appropriate classifications of the equipment assigned;

- Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision;

- Must be able to recognize, rectify and/or report upon actual and potential safety hazards;

- Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to make public presentations;

- Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Department officials, users and other members of staff.
Salary: $28.90 to $34.00 per hour
