Education: | The Energy Manager should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working as an energy and/or sustainability specialist and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Resource Management, Sustainability, or a related field with appropriate certifications and training.
The following additional accreditation/ certification/ courses are considered an asset: • Graduate degree in business, planning, public policy, sustainability, resource management, or a related business field • Registered Professional Engineer, Registered Engineering Technologist, Registered Planner, Certified Energy Manager designation (through the Association of Energy Engineers) or Certified Community Energy Manager (through the Community Energy Association) • Energy efficiency training such as CIET Energy Management Training Course • Project Management Professional (PMP) • LEED professional accreditation (LEEP AP) An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. |
Skills: | The Energy Manager should have:
1. Substantive knowledge in the field of energy and carbon management, local government and institutional processes, and relevant legislation and bylaws 2. Comprehensive knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems including broad knowledge of building automation systems 3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with energy efficient and/or low-carbon technology related to lighting systems, HVAC systems, cooling plant equipment, heating plant equipment, control systems, and fleets 4. Knowledge of current and emerging sustainability principles, such as emissions modelling and accounting approaches, BC Energy Step Code, renewable and low carbon energy technologies, and climate change mitigation and resilience solutions relevant to a municipal context 5. Demonstrated knowledge of building energy benchmarking and performance tracking 6. Demonstrated knowledge of business case analysis and budgeting 7. Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience in detailed report writing and preparing procurements documents, contracts and grant applications 8. Experience in community/stakeholder engagement 9. Demonstrated excellence in leadership, project management, problem-solving, research and analysis 10. Highly motivated, results-driven and able to work both independently and as part of a team |
