Title: Communications Coordinator (Full Time)
Department: Communications Department
Duties: • Develop and post content for the City’s social media accounts (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn), monitor City social media pages, and respond
to inquiries.
• Develop speaking notes, key messages, and frequently asked questions documents for staff and Council to ensure accurate information is available to the
community in a timely manner.
• Create and execute communications plans to supports strategic departmental initiatives.
• Draft a variety of written materials, including press releases, e-newsletters, webpages, surveys, letters, brochures, and more.
• Prepare communication materials to support public engagement. This may include designing display boards, writing and formatting fact sheets, drafting content for
newspaper ads and social media posts, and issuing regular e-newsletters.
• Review submitted web content from all departments and maintain the City’s digital engagement platform.
• Create and coordinate print, digital, and radio advertising campaigns.
• Work with City staff to ensure public-facing materials align with City editorial guidelines and standards, usability and accessibility, and to recommend enhancements
as appropriate.
• Act as a Public Information Officer in the City’s Emergency Operations Centre during emergencies as required.
• These responsibilities are not exhaustive, and other job duties may be assigned as required
Education: • A degree or diploma in communications or a related field.
• Three years of experience in communications.
• Knowledge of good communication principles and practices especially as they relate to strategic corporate communications, issues management and media relations.
• Knowledge of local government would be considered an asset.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
Skills: • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate clearly and effectively with different audiences.
• Skilled in proofreading.
• Organized, detail-oriented and able to multi-task.
• Proficient in the use of social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, as well as social media monitoring and scheduling tools.
• Able to research and summarize information, summarize key messages, and prepare communication materials for a variety of audiences.
• Skilled in the use of Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign and Photoshop), and Microsoft Office (including Acrobat, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently as well as part of inter-disciplinary work teams, and to work within defined timelines.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
