Title: Assistant Fire Chief - Fire Prevention / Investigations

Duties: As a key member of the Fire Department’s senior management team, and reporting to the Fire Chief, you manage all aspects of the Fire Department’s fire prevention program including public education, fire inspections, code enforcement and fire investigations. You have at least 10 years of fire prevention related experience and an extensive knowledge of BC Building and Fire Codes, local government bylaws and related standards. Your excellent interpersonal skills support you as you supervise three fire prevention personnel and coordinate the company inspection program.

You act as a Local Assistant to the Fire Commissioner, as the Deputy Emergency Program Coordinator and as a rotating operational Duty Chief.
Education: You have completed post-secondary education in public administration, business, fire science, risk management, fire investigation or have a combination of equivalent education and experience. You have completed, or are currently enrolled in, the Executive Chief Fire Officer (ECFO) and Emergency Program certificate programs.
Skills: You are a capable leader with extensive employee relations, budgeting and planning skills. You have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with demonstrated report writing and public speaking abilities. You work independently within a team environment, and have demonstrated your expertise in public relations and team building skills. You train and develop fire department staff about all aspects of fire prevention and investigations.

You possess considerable knowledge, training and practical experience in emergency management and the Incident Command System. Your extensive knowledge of and experience with FDM software supports your data management and analysis responsibilities.

The position requires you to have a current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License and to reside within the City of Chilliwack.
