Title: Operations and Instrumentation Technician

Duties: The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve efficient and economical operation in the maintenance of existing municipal utilities systems within the area assigned and for the inspection of new construction and installation of revised or additional systems or works according to the national, provincial and municipal laws, codes and regulations and best engineering practices. Under the supervision of the Utilities Superintendent, the Operations and Instrumentation Technician's duties are performed in accordance with City and engineering policies and project objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of confidential material pertaining to the Department's operation.
Education: - Must be a graduate of an Institute of Technology in a two (2) year Instrumentation / Process Control / Industrial Automation Technologists Program and should have two (2) years related technical experience;
- Must hold or be eligible to hold an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) designation.
Skills: - Sound knowledge of engineering and technical methods, practices and procedures required in the performance of duties of the position;
- Sound knowledge of instrumentation and process control equipment and software;
- Sound knowledge of programmable logic controller programming and operation;
- Must have the ability to program and troubleshoot process control instrumentation and SCADA components;
- Sound knowledge of engineering, construction and municipal maintenance operations;
- Sound knowledge of the City's SCADA system as it relates to utility facility operations;
- Sound knowledge of national, provincial and municipal laws, bylaws, codes and regulations governing municipal engineering works;
- Able to produce detailed, written technical reports;
- Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with developers, contractors, engineers, elected officials, department officials, staff and the general public;
- Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in written format and able to prepare and present technical reports;
- Able to perform a variety of engineering computations and calculations and interpret a variety of technical data and information;
- Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence.
Salary: $37.09 - $43.64 (2019 Rates)
