Duties: The Recreation and Culture Department within the City of Chilliwack, a growing and vibrant community of 100,000 located 100 kilometers east of Vancouver, is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the exempt position of Assistant Superintendent of Facilities.

As a member of the City’s management team, this position will support the Superintendent of Civic Facilities and Superintendent of Recreation Facilities by performing day-to-day duties associated with the operation, maintenance, and renovation of City facilities.

In this dynamic role you will perform administrative and procurement duties, as well as being involved with asset management, energy management, budgeting, inspection and planning of complex construction projects as they relate to civic and recreational operations. You will assist with the planning of short- and long-term projects and objectives. You will also be responsible for the supervision and management of staff and contractors as they relate to maintenance and capital projects. You must be a self-starter with the ability to organize daily tasks, set priorities, work independently and as a member of a team; and work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.

Education: The ideal candidate should have an Engineering Technology diploma or degree with an emphasis in Building Management, Mechanical or Electrical Systems. Preferably, the candidate will have five years of progressive management experience within a related field or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Skills: To be successful in this position you must be effective at maintaining high building standards with excellent communication skills (verbal and written), and the ability to deal with the public, external agencies and all levels of staff. You demonstrate excellent organizational skills with the proven ability to manage multiple projects within specific deadlines. You must also have an in-depth knowledge of local, provincial and federal regulations associated with life safety, building mechanical systems, and the ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.

You will need to qualify for and maintain the required enhanced reliability security clearance for this position, as you will be working in secure buildings.
