Title: Senior Road Safety Specialist (Full Time)

Duties: The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve the efficient operation of the City's Safe Roads Program through reliable performance in coordinating, initiating and integrating local community support for road safety. The incumbent will also be responsible for coordinating and promoting communications, programs and initiatives that form part of the City’s Safe Roads Program. The incumbent will observe and comply with all municipal policies, relevant Provincial and Federal legislation and recognized and acceptable safety practices.

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Safe Roads Program including community consultation and communication by seeking public input on general road safety concerns including developing a process to identify local traffic issues and creating a road safety improvement strategy, responding to road safety and traffic concerns identified by the community, incorporating road safety and traffic concerns into the database and maintaining and updating Safe Roads content on the City’s webpage. The incumbent will be responsible to organize team meetings, will liaise with School District officials and develop a partnership with the University of the Fraser Valley to engage their support and assistance for various aspects of road safety. The incumbent will also liaise with public safety representatives of the RCMP, Fire Department and ICBC. The incumbent will provide leadership to the working group for the Safe Roads Program by organizing, facilitating and coordinating Steering Committee meetings, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, preparing monthly overview and progress reports and ensuring that the Safe Roads Program communication deliverables meet relevant standards and procedures. The incumbent will be required to perform other related tasks as assigned.

The incumbent will normally work the standard work week of Monday to Friday within the hours required to ensure effective performance and work overtime as authorized. The incumbent will periodically be required to respond to frequent shift changes on short notice and may be required to travel in the performance of duties. The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Union Agreement.
Education: - Must be a graduate in an Institute of Technology in the two year Civil Engineering Technologists Program, eligible for certification in the ASTTBC with five (5) years experience related to municipal engineering work -OR- an acceptable combination of training and experience;
Skills: - Must establish an effective working relationship with the media, volunteers, officials from the RCMP, ICBC, Fire Department, Chilliwack School District and University of the Fraser Valley, members of the Public Safety/Safe Roads Working Group, other staff and the general public;

-Must be registered or eligible for registration with ASTTBC;

- Must be knowledgeable in the principles, methods and techniques of media and public relations;

- Must be knowledgeable in the principles and practices of communications planning, development and implementation;

- Must be able to work with relevant computer applications and be able to develop and produce reports, correspondence and other written materials;

- Must be familiar with project management principles to plan, develop, implement and deliver communication strategies and projects;

- Must be proficient in gathering information and evaluating public feedback;

- Must be able to speak in public to a variety of audiences;

- Must be able to produce the desired results within the budgetary restraints;

- Must undergo a criminal record check;

- Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's License;

- Must be able to provide leadership, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and respond to changing demands and schedules.
Salary: $47.47 (2023 rate)
