In this dynamic and challenging position in Development Planning, you will have an opportunity to engage in a variety of planning related tasks. In order to be successful as a Planner I, you must have exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with an ability to grasp concepts quickly and interpret complex technical information, policies and procedures. In addition to your excellent interpersonal skills, you are a highly motivated individual that is goal-oriented and can work efficiently with a varied workload. You are also a critical thinker with a demonstrated ability to problem solve and seek alternative solutions.

Supported by the Manager of Development Planning and as part of a collaborative and diverse team, you will: assist in the efficient operation of the Planning Department through a variety of activities involving development application review, current planning, zoning, official community plan, land use changes, urban design and various comprehensive planning projects as well as daily interactions with the public.
Education: You must be a graduate from a two year post-secondary program in planning, with courses in drafting, graphics, map interpretation, survey techniques and subdivision designs.
Skills: -Working knowledge of standard planning, building and engineering nomenclature and practices;

-Conversant in engineering, mathematics, architectural design and building construction;

-Ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural and site plans and understand specifications;

-Competent in all areas of draftsmanship as applied in planning;

-Ability to prepare clear, concise written and verbal reports;

-Must acquire sound knowledge of zoning and municipal bylaws and other pertinent regulations and bylaws pertaining to the operation of the department;

-Able to deal effectively with other department officials and developers and be tactful, courteous and diplomatic in dealing with the public;

-Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Department officials and other members of staff;

-Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence.


Salary: $43.28 (2023 Rates)
