Duties: The incumbent in this position assists management in achieving an efficient operation in the Finance Department through reliable performance in clerical and accounting duties; observing and complying with municipal policies and ensuring the safety and security of confidential material/matters pertaining to the Department's operation.

The incumbent in this class will perform a variety of accounting and collection functions varying in degree of complexity; receiving, checking, listing and balancing cheques and cash receipts for a variety of accounts and utility services; issuing receipts and making change; preparing cash summary sheets and making deposits; issuing licences, tax certificates, etc., and accounting for same; typing correspondence and a variety of forms. The incumbent will be required to provide information to the public over the telephone and at the reception counter; operate the computer terminal; posting and balancing accounts; and preparing tax, water and sewer notices. The incumbent will be required to perform other Collections duties as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision in accordance with established routine and perform subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Manager of Collections Services.

The incumbent in this class will normally work the standard work week of Monday to Friday within the hours specified and work overtime as required. The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement. The incumbent will be responsible for performing tasks associated with Accounting Clerk "housekeeping" duties.
Education: -Must have a Grade 12 education, supplemented by bookkeeping and commercial courses and formal training and experience on accounting machines and cash registers - Or - a combination of experience and training;
Skills: -Good knowledge of the functions, practices and procedures, bylaws, policies and regulations pertaining to the operation of the Finance Department;

-Good knowledge of the methods, practices and principles entailed in cashiering;

-Good knowledge of modern office practices and municipal accounting procedures and operations;

-Able to operate a variety of standard office equipment, accounting machines and computer terminals;

-Able to be polite, tactful and courteous in dealing with the public and be neat in appearance;

-Able to perform mathematical and arithmetic computations with speed and accuracy;

-Knowledgeable of methods, practices and principles entailed in accounts receivable functions;

-Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of staff.
Salary: $33.26 per hour (2023 rate)
