Title: GIS Supervisor (Full Time)
Department: Information Technology
Duties: Reporting to the Director of Information Technology you will: Assists management to achieve an efficient operation of the GIS section within the IT Department through reliable performance in all areas of GIS, observing and complying with municipal policies and ensuring the safety and security of confidential material pertaining to the Department's operation. This includes but not limited to being responsible for all aspects of the operation of the GIS section within the IT Department, consulting with other departments and officials to determine and respond to the GIS needs of the organization; supervise the staff and contracts in the GIS section in the efficient and effective operation of hardware and software; administer the budget for the GIS section, develop standards, methods and procedures for accomplishing goals in GIS; administer and control the distribution and use of GIS data in both printed and electronic forms; control and implement the flow of data into GIS from other sources; evaluate and implement industry data standards and new technology as they arise; advise management in the purchase of new equipment/software for use in the GIS system; maintain and control records for the GIS section on the resource and methods used in accomplishing goals; perform other related duties as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Director of IT.
Education: - Must be a graduate of a recognized Institute of Technology of a two-year Geographic Information Systems Technology Program or equivalent, plus a minimum of 4 years of related experience.
Skills: - Skills & Strong ability to listen, understand and communicate in supervising and mentoring staff;

- Strong background in cartography;

- Sound working knowledge of advanced GIS software and its applications, particularly ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and CityWorks; knowledge of ArcGIS Server/Enterprise, AutoCAD and Python is desirable;

- Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence;

- Able to work within the multifaceted municipal setting;

- Able to work with minimum supervision and to exercise judgment in the performance of duties in accordance with established priorities;

Good working knowledge of:
- FME Desktop, FME Server and creating workbenches for GIS data maintenance
- Tempest and its property and utility data
- SQL Server relational databases, writing structured queries to retrieve information, and spreadsheet programs
- Reading survey plans and engineering drawings
- Drafting methods, principles and techniques
- Coordinate geometry, map projections, and coordinate systems
- Procuring and maintaining aerial imagery and lidar
- Geoprocessing and data-transformation tasks
- Maintaining municipal GIS data, including data input/editing/exports and digital/paper maps

Basic knowledge of:
- Land surveying principles including the use of GPS equipment
- Operation and maintenance of large format printers and related equipment

Salary: $47.47 (2023 rate)
