Duties: The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation in the GIS section of the Information Technology Department through reliable performance in all areas of Geographic Information Systems, observing and complying with municipal policies and ensuring the safety and security of confidential material pertaining to the Department's operation.

The incumbent in this class will be responsible for all aspects of the operation of the G.I.S. Cell within the Information Technology Department, consulting with other departments and officials to determine and respond to the G.I.S. needs of the organization. The incumbent will supervise the staff and contracts in the G.I.S. Cell in the efficient and effective operation of hardware and software. The incumbent will administer the budget for the G.I.S. Cell. The incumbent will develop standards, methods and procedures for accomplishing goals in G.I.S. The incumbent will administer and control the distribution and use of G.I.S. data in both printed and electronic forms. The incumbent will also control and implement the flow of data into the G.I.S. from other sources. The incumbent will evaluate and implement industry data standards and new technology as they arise. The incumbent will advise management in the purchase of new equipment/software for use in the G.I.S. System. The incumbent will maintain and control records for the G.I.S. Cell on the resource and methods used in accomplishing goals.

The incumbent will be required to perform other related duties as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Director of Information Technology.
Education: Must be a graduate of a recognized Institute of Technology of a two-year Geographic Information Systems Technology Program or equivalent
Skills:
-Must have a working knowledge of personal computer operating systems;

-Must have a working knowledge of the use of advanced G.I.S. software and its applications, particularly ESRI and CityWorks applications. Knowledge of Computer Assistance Drafting (CAD) is desirable;

-Must have a strong background in cartography;

-Must have a working knowledge and ability to use a data base and spreadsheet programs;

-Must have basic knowledge of land surveying principles including the use of GPS equipment;

-Should have knowledge of drafting methods, principles and techniques;

-Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence;

-Able to work within the multifaceted municipal setting;

-Able to work with minimum supervision and to exercise judgement in the performance of duties in accordance with established priorities;


-Knowlegable in the operation and maintenance of large format printers and related equipment.

-Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of staff
Salary: $37.09 to $43.64 per hour (2019 rates)
