Duties: | The incumbent in this classification assists management to achieve an efficient operation in the Finance Department through reliable performance in stock and inventory control, records maintenance, buying duties, and observing and complying with municipal policies and safety practices.
The incumbent will be responsible for a wide range of duties varying in degree of complexity and responsibility in maintaining an effective storekeeping operation; receiving, storing and dispersing goods involved in City operations in accordance with established procedures; operating a fork lift to move, store and retrieve various items as required; maintaining accounting and other records both computerized and manual in order to properly record all transactions; performing daily price extensions of requisitions, maintaining a close liaison and cooperation with Public Works personnel and other users of the system; maintaining the stores area in a clean and orderly manner; ensuring minimum and maximum stock levels are maintained by regular checks or as directed. The incumbent will also be responsible for buying functions as assigned and in compliance with properly authorized procedures; obtaining price and product information; providing pricing information to departmental officials; raising, as required, requisitions, purchase orders, etc. The Store person in this position will also be responsible for giving direction to other staff as assigned; training and evaluating performance of subordinate staff; assigning and maintaining work to ensure compliance. The incumbent will also be required to serve as a First Aid Attendant as designated under the W.C.B.'s Occupational First Aid Regulations. The incumbent will be required to perform other related duties as assigned. Independent judgement and clear communication with management are necessary requisites. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Purchasing Manager. The incumbent will work the standard work week of Monday to Friday within the hours specified and on occasion work overtime as authorized. The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement. |
Education: | -Must have a minimum of Grade 12 education supplemented by courses in the Supply Management Training (SMT) Program offered by Supply Chain Canada; and a minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in the buying/storeperson field, or and equivalent of training and experience, preferably municipal; |
Skills: | -Must have and maintain a WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level Two certification;
-Must have a sound knowledge of receiving, shipping, issuing and storing a variety of maintenance and construction supplies and materials; -Must have good knowledge in the principles, practices and procedures of buying; -Good knowledge of accounting procedures as related to the storekeeping functions; -Able to evaluate quantity, price and service factors to arrive at standard costs of inventory and extended requisitions; -Able to work with minimal supervision; -Able to plan, direct and supervise the work of a small subordinate staff; -Able to maintain an effective working relationship with user departments; -Able to communicate effectively, both in written and oral format; -Able to life heavy objects and operate a fork lift in a safe and effective manner; -Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence. |
