Department: Planning and Strategic Initiatives
Duties: The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve efficient operation within the Current Planning Section of the Department through reliable performance of technical, field and office work of planning requirements and observing safety and security practices of confidential planning material and municipal policies.

The incumbent in this class, under direction, is responsible for obtaining data by visual surveys, map analysis and information sources, performing statistical analysis and drafting and design tasks. The employee prepares maps and reports varying in degree of complexity and interprets zoning and other bylaws. The incumbent is responsible for making decisions on routine matters and processing a variety of applications. The incumbent will be required to obtain data of land use, population, floor area distribution, employment and economics, etc., from governmental records, existing information and from other sources and present data in clear and concise form; consolidating and maintaining records, recording data on maps, charts, graphs and other material for interpretation. The incumbent may be required to prepare draft reports on rezoning applications; examining development plans and performing physical surveys of the City. The incumbent will perform other related tasks as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision according to established routine and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Senior Planning Technician
Education: You must be a graduate from a two year post-secondary program in planning, with courses in drafting, graphics, map interpretation, survey techniques and subdivision designs.
Skills: -Working knowledge of standard planning, building and engineering nomenclature and practices;

-Conversant in engineering, mathematics, architectural design and building construction;

-Ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural and site plans and understand specifications;

-competent in all areas of draftsmanship as applied in planning;

-Ability to prepare clear, concise written and verbal reports;

-Must acquire sound knowledge of zoning and municipal bylaws and other pertinent regulations and bylaws pertaining to the operation of the department;

-Able to deal effectively with other department officials and developers and be tactful, courteous and diplomatic in dealing with the public;

-Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Department officials and other members of staff;

-Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence.


Salary: $32.53 to $38.27per hour (2017 Rates)
