Duties: The incumbent in this class will assist management to achieve an efficient operation in the Recreation and Culture Department through reliable performance in secretarial duties, typing, clerical and reception duties, effective booking procedures of all recreational facilities and ensure safety and security of confidential matters pertaining to the Department's operation.

The incumbent in this class performs a variety of typing, receptionist, clerical and secretarial duties, varying in degree of complexity and responsibility; typing a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, minutes, forms and related material from copies, rough drafts, notes or general instructions. The incumbent is responsible for booking all recreational facilities to the public in accordance with established policies; preparing rental agreements; ensuring all bookings are current and registered. The incumbent will process time sheets for payroll calculations. The incumbent will assist, as required, in answering incoming telephone calls, referring enquiries, complaints, etc., to the appropriate office for action, providing a variety of technical and general information and assistance to the public over the telephone or at the receptionist counter. The incumbent will perform other related tasks as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Manager of Leisure Development.
Education: Must have completed Grade 12 in a commercial program supplemented by formal courses in the secretarial field.

Must have and maintain qualifications as an Industrial First Aid Attendant as specified by the Workers' Compensation Board.
Skills: Sound knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuation;

Good knowledge of modern office practices and procedures;

Able to perform clerical and secretarial assignments with minimal supervision;

Able to operate a variety of standard office equipment, including word processing equipment;

Able to be polite, courteous and tactful in dealing with the public and be neat in appearance;

Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials, department heads and other members of staff;

Able to coordinate activities of user groups in the recreation facilities through sound knowledge of booking procedures;

Able to process a variety of calls, complaints and enquiries authoritatively and arrange appointments/meetings as required;

Able to type accurately and rapidly; and,

Able to take dictation, minutes, etc., rapidly and accurately.
Salary: $22.32 to $26.26 per hour (2016 rates)
