Title: Planner II - (Senior Planning Technician)
Department: Municipal Development
Duties: Responsible for the coordination and processing of Development and Subdivision Applications; investigating and reporting on technical problems on the various applications. Assist in the review and return of all performance bonds and irrevocable letters of credit, assessment and collection of Development Cost Charges, at the Subdivision and Building Permit stages; meeting with and reporting on enquiries from members of the public regarding all development related matters; assist in the compilation of correspondence of technical and legal information required from both internal and external services relative to particular Development Applications (Zoning, Subdivision and Development Variance Permits), consulting with the Approving Officer and Planning staff on development applications, assists and checks the work of subordinate technicians; develops new and improved work procedures and upon receipt of approval, implement same. The incumbent as directed will perform other technical work pertaining to the Municipal Development Department and other related duties that may be assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under the general supervision, and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Manager of Development Services.
Education: Must have a degree is geography or community planning and five years experience in a comparable or related position; must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence.
Skills: -Sound knowledge of the various government agencies involved in the planning and subdivision area, and sound knowledge in application procedures;
-Sound knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of urban planning and development permits;
-Good knowledge of municipal bylaws, zoning regulations and other pertinent regulations/policies pertaining to the operation of the department;
-Able to coordinate the work of staff in the planning section;
-Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with elected and departmental officials and other members of staff, and maintain effective and positive relations with developers and the general public;
-Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in written format, with sound knowledge and ability to prepare and present technical and non-technical reports;
-Able to supervise, direct and control the work of subordinates.
Salary: $33..20 to $39.07 per hour (2013 rates)
