Duties: | GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve efficient operation of the Parks Section of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department through reliable performance of all parks related duties, maintaining all parks equipment and facilities and observing and complying with municipal policies and safety practices. NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK: The incumbent in this class will be responsible for performing a variety of grounds and equipment maintenance work and semi-skilled tasks including winterizing, opening and maintaining outdoor washroom facilities, irrigation systems and other related systems or facilities; performing repairs and regular maintenance to all parks facilities, furnishings and equipment; maintaining lawnmowers, operating mowers; performing a variety of horticultural functions under the direction of the supervisor, including, but not restricted to, weeding, planting, cultivating and other skilled and non-skilled tasks. The incumbent will be required to perform repairs, maintenance and installation works and park development, renovations and construction; erecting fences and backstops; constructing and installing playground equipment; assisting in development and construction of park areas. The incumbent will be required to perform other related tasks as assigned. Education: | Must have a minimum of Grade 10 education with courses in the industrial arts and/or some formal training or experience in horticulture or related experience and training;
Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence with appropriate classification for the equipment assigned |
Skills: | General knowledge of parks maintenance and skilled in the use of tools and equipment used in parks maintenance;
General knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and methods used in parks maintenance; Able to recognize and rectify and/or report upon actual or potential safety hazards; Able to lift and carry heavy objects; Able to understand verbal and written instructions in English and complete required forms, logs and reports as required; Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials, users and other members of the staff |
Salary: | $22.65 / hr - $26.65 /hr (2013) |
