| Duties: | The Assistant Fire Chief of Operations is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing all fire department operational functions, including fire suppression, EMS, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, disaster operations, and incident response. Your excellent leadership and interpersonal skills provide executive oversight and coordination for both career and paid on-call personnel, ensuring operational readiness, service effectiveness, and compliance with departmental, regulatory and industry standards. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the Assistant Fire Chief of Operations reports directly to the Fire Chief, contributing to strategic planning and overall organizational direction. You also champion a healthy, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture that promotes professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement. |
| Education: | You have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business or fire science, or you have an acceptable combination of post-secondary education and experience. You have completed, or are currently enrolled in the Executive Chief Fire Officer (ECFO) program. |
| Skills: | -You are a capable leader with excellent employee relations, budgeting and planning skills.
-You have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with demonstrated report writing and public speaking abilities. You work independently within a team environment and have demonstrated your expertise in public relations and team building skills. -Your exceptional management skills support effective acquisition, inventory control, maintenance, and servicing of all departmental resources. -You possess a minimum of 10 years of fire suppression experience and 5 years as a suppression fire officer in a composite fire department. -As the department’s Occupational Health & Safety Officer, you coordinate and provide leadership for all aspects of the department’s occupational health and safety programs. -You act as a rotating, operational Duty Chief and are required to work flexible hours to meet the training and operational requirements of our composite fire department. -You are a capable leader with excellent employee relations, budgeting and planning skills. -You have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with demonstrated report writing and public speaking abilities. -You work independently within a team environment and have demonstrated your expertise in public relations and team building skills. -You possess extensive knowledge, training and practical experience in emergency disaster management and the Incident Command System. -Your extensive knowledge of and experience with Fire Department Management software systems supports your data management and analysis responsibilities. -The position requires you to have a current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License and to reside within the City of Chilliwack. |
