Duties: | The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve efficient operation within the Planning Department
through reliable performance in technical work, providing excellent customer service for the Department, and undertaking reliable administrative and technical work in the office and in the field, in accordance with planning requirements, and observing safety and security practices associated with confidential planning material and municipal policies. The incumbent, under direction, will be responsible for preparing reports on development and long range planning matters, will assist the public at the front counter, on the phone, and through email, answering questions related to planning and development. The incumbent will provide technical support for planning functions, including the review, research, and processing of planning applications and proposals such as development permits, building permits, business licences, and bylaw compliance, including site visits. The incumbent will prepare basic correspondence, and work under general supervision, performing other related duties as assigned. |
Education: | -Must have a two year diploma in Geography or Planning and should have experience in related local
government or planning work - OR - an equivalent combination of related education and experience; |
Skills: | -Working knowledge of planning, land development, and development industry processes;
-Ability to communicate effectively in writing, including preparing clear and concise technical and nontechnical reports; -Ability to coordinate work with staff in the Planning Department, and establish and maintain effective working relationships; -Strong organizational skills with the ability to organize work processes efficiently, multi task, and prioritize work under pressure, and maintain a high degree of accuracy; -Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, and knowledge of land or property tracking software; -Knowledge of various government agencies and legislation as they pertain to planning; -General knowledge of mapping and graphics as applied to planning; -Familiarity with development plans, site plans, and other property-based information; -Strong customer service skills and the ability to remain tactful, courteous, and diplomatic with the public and difficult clients; -Must be in possession of or able to obtain avalid B.C. Driver's Licence. |
Salary: | Pay Grade 9 |
Hours: | The incumbent in this class will normally work the standard work week of Monday to Friday within the hours
specified and on occasion work overtime as authorized. The incumbent may be required to travel in the performance of duties. The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement. |
