Duties: | The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation in the Finance Department through reliable performance of accounting functions, observing and complying with municipal policies, and statutory requirements, ensuring the safety and security of confidential material/matters pertaining to the Department's operation.
Reporting to the Revenue Supervisor, the Senior Accounting Clerk – Revenue is responsible for performing a range of duties related to revenue collection issues with property taxes, utilities and other financial receivables. This position primarily supports the collections functions of the finance department in maintaining financial compliance and provides support, as needed, to internal departments, management and assists members of the public by providing information and responding to inquiries via phone, email and in person at the finance reception counter. The Senior Accounting Clerk – Revenue will perform a variety of clerical and accounting work varying in degrees of complexity, and responsibility, while supporting the Revenue Supervisor in administering provincial programs related to property taxation. They will assist in the levying of property taxes, perform account reconciliations, general bookkeeping, and year-end processes. The work requires public sector accounting standards (PSAS) knowledge, local government finance experience, the ability to work effectively within a team as well as independently, and a commitment to quality control when reviewing the work of other clerical staff. The Senior Accounting Clerk - Revenue prepares working papers and other reconciliations related to audit requirements; and liaises with external auditors as necessary during the annual audit. This position will act as an ERP software super user as it pertains to Revenue related collections and receivables. The incumbent will be required to supervise staff as assigned; planning and assigned work and reviewing same to ensure accuracy. The Senior Accounting Clerk - Revenue will be required to perform other related duties as assigned. The incumbent in this class will normally work the standard work week of Monday to Friday within the hours specified and on occasion work overtime as authorized. The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement. The incumbent will be responsible for performing tasks associated with Accounting Clerk "housekeeping" duties. |
Education: | Must have grade 12 education supplemented by post secondary courses in bookkeeping or accounting; |
Skills: | - Able to plan, direct and supervise work of subordinates;
- Good knowledge of the functions, practices and procedures, bylaws, policies and regulations pertaining to the operation of the Finance Department; - Good knowledge of the modern office practices and municipal accounting procedures and operations; - Able to operate a variety of standard office equipment, accounting machines and computer terminals; - Able to be polite, tactful and courteous in dealing with the public and be neat in appearance; - Able to perform mathematical and arithmetic computations with speed and accuracy; - Able to perform tasks with minimal supervision; - Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of the staff. |
Salary: | $40.44 per hour (2025 rate) |
