| Duties: | The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation within the RCMP Community Police Office through reliable performance in guarding duties, observing and complying with Municipal and RCMP policies and procedures; and observing and complying with safety practices.
The incumbent in this class will be required to perform a variety of guard, security and administrative duties, varying in degree of responsibility and complexity; ensuring the safety and security of prisoners while detained in the RCMP cellblock; monitoring and documenting in the log book all movement of prisoners in and out of cells and physical checks of prisoners as per RCMP policy; complete cellblock incident reports on suicide attempts involving prisoners or any high risk incidents and forward direct to Watch Commander; keep the Watch Commander (in charge of cell block) up-to-date on daily operation; provide assistance to the RCMP in booking and releasing prisoners; operate computer programs to book in prisoners f |
| Education: | - Must have previous experience in guarding or security practices - OR - the equivalent combination of training and experience;
- Must have sound knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures used in the care and custody of prisoners; |
| Skills: | - Able to understand written and verbal instructions in English and accurately complete required forms;
- Able to type a minimum of 30 net words per minute; - Able to operate all equipment associated with guarding duties; - Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of staff; - Able to effectively control and care for prisoners when detained; - Able to recognize and rectify and/or report upon actual and potential safety hazards; - Able to qualify for and maintain the required security clearance for the position. Failure on the part of the employee to satisfy this requirement will necessitate the removal of the employee from the position. - Must have up-to-date Hepatitis A, B inoculations. |
