Duties: The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation in the Recreation Services Section of the Recreation & Culture Department through reliable performance of custodian/security tasks, observing and complying with municipal policies and safety practices.

The incumbent in this class will be responsible for custodial/security services of municipal facilities; performing minor cleaning tasks; ensuring facilities are presentable to and usable by the public; ensuring security of facilities when not in use; cleaning and servicing washrooms, lobbies and foyers; manage waste disposal and recycling activities and maintain outdoor areas such as parking lots; maintain safe and clear access to facilities including removing debris and shoveling snow around entrance ways to buildings to make them accessible including steps and wheel chair ramps, as assigned. The incumbent will perform other related duties as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Facilities Supervisor.

The incumbent will work those days and hours as prescribed in published shift schedules and, as required, work overtime. Employees in this class will, upon hiring, have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Education:
Skills: -Able to understand verbal and written instructions in English, fill in simple forms, count and perform addition and subtraction;

-Able to exhibit courtesy, tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public and be neat and presentable in appearance;

-Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's License;

-Preferably have had previous experience, but must acquire in three (3) months or less through on-the-job training, a sound knowledge of security/custodian practices and materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial work;

-Must be able to demonstrate skill in the use of equipment and materials as provided;

-Able to recognize, rectify and/or report upon actual and potential safety hazards;

-Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and staff;

-Able to perform manual work and lift heavy objects.
