Title: Victim Services Caseworker (Casual) 2 Positions
Department: Chilliwack RCMP - Public Safety and Social Development
Duties: This is specialized work involving the provision of crisis intervention and follow-up support services to victims and witnesses of crime and other forms of trauma. Victim services consists primarily of responding to requests for emergency support from members of the Chilliwack RCMP and may include attending alone or with a colleague to any scene where requested by police. Victim Services Case Workers may provide emotional support, referral to community agencies and address emergent needs such a housing etc. Workers may find themselves working alongside other agencies or first responders including the fire department, paramedics or emergency social services.

The incumbent attends the scene of police crisis call-outs such as crimes, serious accidents and domestic disputes and provides emotional support to distressed victims and witnesses; assists police with next-of-kin notifications in cases of sudden death; liaises with agencies to obtain immediate services; as appropriate. As requested by clients, provides on-going emotional support to victims of crime, trauma and family problems; makes referrals to appropriate agencies for services such as counseling, financial assistance, and legal advice; in consultation with investigating officer updates clients on the progress of police investigations; provides assistance to victims in completing CVAP applications and victim impact statements; and related duties as assigned.

The incumbent in this class will be required to work up to 40 hours per week and conform to the hours of work as prescribed in published shift schedules and on occasion, work overtime as authorized. The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement. The incumbent will be responsible for performing tasks associated with clerical “housekeeping” duties.
Education: -Must have some post secondary courses in Criminology or Social Sciences. - OR - an acceptable combination of education and experience;
Skills: -Experience working in a police agency or within the criminal justice systms would be considered an asset.

-Familiarity with PRIME and/or JUSTIN would be considered an asset.

-Able to obtain and maintain RCMP Security Clearance

-Able to perform clerical, typing and receptionist duties with minimal supervision;

-Able to be courteous, tactful and diplomatic in dealing with the public and be neat and presentable in appearance;

-Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of staff;

-Able to qualify for and maintain the required security clearance for the position. Failure on the part of the employee to satisfy this requirement will necessitate the removal of that employee from the position.
Salary: $35.26 per hour (2024 rate)
